Although the management of children with PAH is very similar to that used for adults, dosage and formulation does vary for pediatric PAH. The dose of medicines will differ and should be determined by body weight, based on results from a clinical trial in children. Ideally, formulations which are specific for pediatric patients should be used.
Another important aspect of managing children with PAH is the fact that infants, small children and adolescents grow and develop at different rates, and treatments need to be carefully chosen, according to each patient’s needs. Also, because children are constantly growing and developing, their treatment needs will change over time. PAH needs to be carefully monitored; regular visits to specialist centers are an important part of PAH management.
The same therapies that are used to treat adult PAH can also be used as treatments for children.
