PAH is a severe condition in children which requires careful monitoring and treatment. The number of children who suffer from PAH is small; nevertheless, the impact of PAH on children is no less devastating than in adults, if left untreated.
The most common types of PAH in children are:
- Idiopathic PAH (IPAH), for which no underlying cause can be found
- Heritable PAH, where PAH is inherited from a family member
- PAH which is associated with certain types of heart disease which have been present since birth (PAH associated with congenital heart disease; PAH-CHD)
